California Presidential Primary Today!

I voted; did you? I really don't like the new voting machines in my county. They have this awkward dial thing that was confusing to me.

If you're still undecided about how to vote, you can look at the League of Women Voters' site: www.VOTE411.org. Unfortunately, they have almost no information about the Green Party.

Now I'm going to spend the rest of the day gardening. Well, repotting my houseplants and setting up some bulbs and herbs in pots on the balcony. My dear husband gave me a very generous gift card to the hardware store/garden center across the street for my Christmas present. Just what I wanted!

Thanks sweetheart!

(I already ordered a worm bin from the county composting agency. It hasn't arrived yet but I know just where it's going to go.)

Hey Robin!

I also voted today in the Green primary. I feel the same way as you about the electronic voting machines (same county). At my voting place, they gave me a paper ballot. Do they give you that option?

Thanks for the information about the worm bins. Our backyard would be perfect for one.

Happy Super Tuesday!

No, I didn't get a paper ballot, but then I didn't complain until I was done.

I did like that the electronic machine does print out a paper version. I think that is still important in case of a recount and prevention of voter fraud.

In Oregon, we vote by mail. I love it! Yay voting! :)

As for potting bulbs, you have to post some pictures when they bloom. Nothing is more beautiful in springtime than a freshly bloomed bulb. Well, except baby lambs, but I doubt those will be showing up on your balcony any time soon.

The miniature daffodils I bought are already in bloom. I'm thinking of them as more like an extended version of cut flowers than really growing things. I did transplant them into a real pot rather than the embarrassing pink plastic thing they came in.

The hyacinths and tulips are still to come, along with cilantro, parsley and chives. Eventually I want to add some yellowish variegated foliage plants to the balcony to make it less stark, but that will have to wait for another day.

Miniature daffodils already in bloom?!?

Heck, we still have 4-6 inches of snow on the ground, with temps still well below freezing levels!

I'm looking forward to mud season so I can watch the snow melt and see which native prairie wildflowers that I planted in 2007 made it safely through the winter...

Blessings,

Hrm, worm bin. They recommend red wrigglers. Got much of those lying around?

Liz, I'm sure my daffodils came from a greenhouse somewhere. But last week I was in Berkeley and on the same street there were trees whose leaves had just turned red because it just got cold enough and trees that were already beginning to blossom. The Bay Area is a confusing place to be a plant. And a wonderful place to live.

Allison, I don't have my worms yet. But I found a couple of places that sell them and I also think that you can sometimes get them from friends whose worm bins are getting overcrowded. I'm just waiting for my bin to arrive. We already received our copy of "Worms Eat My Garbage" by Mary Appelhof.
